Face Paint brings a playful wash of salmon and bishop’s violet to white blooms, with a bold violet plicata band framing the falls. Beards soften from tangerine in the throat through white to lavender at the tips, while sweet fragrance adds another reason to enjoy this very early-to-early-midseason iris up close.
Variety details: Standard dwarf bearded iris (SDB), plicata; white-ground standards flushed salmon with bishop’s violet markings; white falls with a 1/4-inch solid bishop’s violet plicata band; beards soft lavender at the ends, white through the middle, and tangerine in the throat; sweet fragrance. Barry Blyth, 2002; very early to early midseason bloom; 31 cm. Tempo Two 2002/03. Photo credit: Kenneth Fenn.
